About CloakMyIPAddress
CloakMyIPAddress is a small, independent privacy site with one job: show you exactly what your internet connection gives away, then explain — in plain language — how to give away less.
What we do
- Free tools. Our IP check shows the public IP address, approximate location and provider that every website sees. Our leak tests check for the three most common ways a VPN can fail to hide you: WebRTC, DNS and IPv6 leaks.
- How-to guides. Step-by-step guides for Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android and common browsers, written for people who are not network engineers.
- Honest product information. When a guide mentions a VPN, we stick to facts that can be checked: published audits, company location, device limits and current prices from the provider’s own pricing page.
Who writes the site
Articles are published under the CloakMyIPAddress Privacy Desk byline. The desk is a small editorial team. Drafts are prepared with the help of AI writing tools and are then fact-checked against primary sources — standards documents (such as IETF RFCs), regulators, court rulings, browser documentation and providers’ own policies — before publication. Every guide lists its sources and its last-reviewed date.
We do not claim to have run lab tests we have not run. Where a guide describes how a feature behaves, it is based on documentation and published, independent testing, which we link to.
Our privacy promise for the tools
- We do not keep a log of the IP addresses checked with our tools.
- Leak-test results are displayed only in your browser.
- We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits in aggregate; you can block it with any content blocker and the tools still work.
How the site is funded
Some links to VPN providers go through our /go/ links. We may join providers’ affiliate programmes in the future, which would pay us a commission if you buy — at no extra cost to you. This never decides what the tool shows or which products we mention. Read our full disclosure and how we research.
